Brian E. Owen, PhD, President
Brian Owen is President of NRG Research Group. Previously, he founded Western Opinion Research Ltd. (WOR), one of NRG's predecessor companies, and was the firm's President and CEO. Over a twenty-five year period beginning in 1981, Dr. Owen established WOR as one of Canada's leading market and public opinion research firms.
In the course of his career, Dr. Owen has managed hundreds of major research projects in Canada and the U.S. His expertise includes public opinion and public affairs research (ranging from election campaigns to government policy research), corporate issues management, messaging and fundraising research for cultural and hospital organizations, and research for retail companies. Dr. Owen has an outstanding ability to link information from market research studies to the strategic imperatives of clients.
Dr. Owen has long recognized that high quality information is the key to success in strategic decision-making. In a world of dynamic change, accurate and timely information, and an understanding of its impact, provide the foundation for effective planning and decision-making.
In his role as President of NRG, Dr. Owen manages the firm's national practice. From bases in Vancouver and Winnipeg, he also oversees the company's internal operations. He continues to work on an ongoing basis with long-term clients including the Canadian Wheat Board, CHUM Radio and the B.C. Bureau of Public Affairs.
For the past 30 years Dr. Owen has studied and taught strategic management. As a Professor he taught business strategy for 25 years at what is now the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. He has also worked as a strategic facilitator with many leading organizations.
Brian Owen earned his Ph.D. from the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario, and holds undergraduate and Master of Agricultural Economics degrees from the University of Manitoba.
