There are several key factors to consider when conducting research with hard to reach and professional populations. First, if the study is to be conducted by telephone, a team of senior interviewers who can quickly gain credibility and rapport with gatekeepers and potential respondents is essential. Second, project manages and supervisors must devote substantial resources to monitoring surveys to ensure that the correct individuals are being interviewed and that the questions are relevant. Third, there must be a compelling "value proposition" for the potential respondent to complete the survey.
